Areas in the toolset consist of editable Terrain(maps) composed of square tiles, the qualities of each tile varying dependant upon Tileset selected.

[edit] File Format

In the BioWare Aurora engine, each Area in a module is described by three files. Each file has the same filename, but a different extension. The following are brief summaries of the area file types. ARE - static area information - area properties and tile layout. GIT - dynamic area information - game object instances and sound properties. GIC - area comments - contains toolset-only comments on game object instances.

[edit] Editing

The Toolset has a Wizard for creating area's, once the Tileset has been chosen, Area named and the area has been opened in the 3D veiw, editing is a matter of selecting Terrain type or from Features or Groups.

Terrain - Single Tile selected and switched for another (random in some cases) in order to build the basic layout of the map.

Features - Single "paintable" Tile normally with a Tileset specific Terrain feature.

Groups - A Group of Tileset specific "paintable" Tiles.
