This section provides a more detailed look at some of the trials and tribulations of 2da files.

Padding 2da files

To avoid future conflicts with overlapping line items in 2da files, Bioware is recommending padding existing 2da files and starting custom content after the figures in the following tables. Some 2da files already set aside space for user entries (e.g., appearance.2da does this) – you can use the entries given or pad beyond the new figures given by Bioware

Notes on 2da files

You may have noticed deleted entries in the existing 2da files. Some people are tempted to ‘re-use’ them for their own custom content. Bioware’s official recommendation is not to re-use "deleted" entries as they may be subject to hardcoded rules in the NWN engine or other oddities. You have been warned.
