General Information

Item properties are in most respects hardcoded. They are the bonuses added to any item, such as healing kit powers, enchantment bonuses to swords, or the scrolls spells. Recent patches have allowed full access to adding and removing these from items (as well as adding them tempoarily) which is a great help.

The main need to edit item properties is the need to add new spells onto items, new On Hit spells, adding new feats onto items, or changing the costs of the properties.

How do they work?

Item properties get added to an item's property page - rather like how spells are added to a creatures blueprint or properties. This, in turn, allows the game to know and allow the properties to function when loaded.

Some are activable - most notably, spells. Others grant bonus feats or bonus stats, which appear automatically on creature stat pages/character sheets.

What is hardcoded

Most everything. See that line referencing the cost of "Immunity: Death Magic"? Well, the game knows more about it then us. Removing the line or moving it will break the death magic property,

2da Files

The seperate 2da files for the item properties are usually prefixed "iprp". See the iprp 2da Files page for more information on these.

However, there are several layers of item proprty 2da's, and not all of them have the word "item" in either.

This section will be more complete in time...heh. There are a lot of cross-references involving items, properties, and costs. Stay tuned...
