Targa is a type of image file format, used in NWN it is used for low-resolution textures and inventory icons for graphics running in compatibility mode (eg for graphics cards which don't support DDS and for Linux users). The other main use is portraits.
It supports multiple bit depths and resolutions, and while it supports compression NWN doesn't, so ensure when saving these files that they are not compressed if you wish to use them in NWN.
